Lore & Background

The season was delayed twice: first due to the COVID-19 pandemic, announced on April 19, 2020, with the series returning on June 28, 2020 from episode 930; and second due to a security breach in Toei Animation's network on March 6, 2022, with the series returning on April 17, 2022 from episode 1014. Episodes 895 and 896 contain an original story arc, 'Cidre Guild', tying into the film One Piece: Stampede. Episode 907 adapts Oda's one-shot manga Romance Dawn, featuring a slightly different Luffy.

Reader's Guide

Season 20 is notable as the first-ever longest season of One Piece, spanning 197 episodes. It includes tie-in arcs for two films: 'Cidre Guild' for One Piece: Stampede and 'Uta's Past' (episodes 1029–1030) for One Piece Film: Red. The season used seven pieces of theme music, including a special opening for episode 1000 ('We Are!' by Hiroshi Kitadani) and a special opening for episodes 1028–1030 ('New Genesis' by Ado) in the Japanese broadcast only due to licensing reasons. For the first time in 17 years, the series introduced an ending theme ('Raise' by Chili Beans) for episodes 1071 to 1088. The season adapts material from the 90th volume to the beginning of the 105th volume of the manga.
